GAS PIPING REPAIRS

While leaky water pipes can cause damage and make a mess…leaky gas lines can be lethal. Extreme care needs to be used when dealing with natural gas. We can properly repair or replace your gas lines using approved methods and materials. Above ground natural gas piping systems are generally steel pipe and fittings. Recently CSST (corrugated stainless steel tubing) has been approved for use and can result in significant labor savings on larger jobs. Our techs are certified to install CSST.

Underground systems may consist of factory wrapped steel pipe or various types of plastic. We are certified to install PE (polyethylene) systems with the heat fusion fittings. PE pipe holds up much better underground than steel pipe.

Gas leaks can be harder to find than water leaks. We use a “sniffer” when appropriate and will pressure test a system when needed to facilitate the locating process.

Seismic valves are becoming more popular and we stock several sizes. If you are complying with an insurance regulation or just want peace of mind we can handle the installation for you.

You can depend on Biard and Crockett to safely and efficiently handle your gas piping needs, because there is no substitute for experience.

WATER PIPING REPAIRS

We can handle the smallest repairs to completely re-piping your entire home. We have the parts and the expertise to repair copper, PVC, CPVC, PEX, galvanized steel, and poly pipe that is used on many mobile homes.

We recommend that you have your water pressure checked on a regular basis. Code requires that your water system be no higher than 80 psi, but we generally recommend 60-70 psi. High water pressure is like high blood pressure; it can cause a lot of problems! Many times you don’t know you have a problem until a costly repair is needed. High pressure increases the friction loss on your piping system and will result in premature failures. Your expensive appliances (dishwashers, clothes washers, ice makers, water softeners, etc) are also adversely affected by high water pressure. Excessive pressure may also result in annoying banging or thumping pipes.

High pressure is alleviated by the installation of a pressure regulating valve (PRV) and is generally installed on the incoming water line at the front of the house. If a PRV already exists they can sometimes be adjusted or rebuilt. The average life of a PRV is usually 10-15 years. If you are not sure about your pressure, have one of our technicians check it for you on the next visit. If you want to check it yourself we sell easy to use inexpensive gauges in our store, or we will loan you one (deposit required).

If your system is in need of a total replacement we can do that too. Proper water re-piping is a big job and needs to done properly for the desired results. We only use Type L (thicker walled) pipe when doing copper re-pipes. Recently our local area began to allow PEX piping and we have performed several jobs already with this material. While PEX is new to our area it is not new to the US. It has been in use in other states for over 15 years. All of our techs are certified to install this material.

Re-pipes usually involve opening walls, ceilings, or floors. When this is the case we can put your home back together and leave it ready for paint, finished flooring, etc. If you are thinking about getting your home re-piped now is the time to consider a water softener, or perhaps a hot water recirculation system. Let us know if we can help you with those decisions because we have doing it for over 50 years and there is no substitute for experience.
